Good afternoon WCPS Families and Staff,
In addition to the potential and alleged threats Washington County Public Schools received this week, we are aware of the reported TikTok post circulating that references a threat to schools. It appears this is part of a viral trend that has affected schools and school divisions both locally and nationwide.
We have been in contact with our amazing law enforcement partners around the clock, as these threats and social media posts are investigated. We do not believe nor does law enforcement believe the posts provide a credible threat to school safety in Washington County. Some school divisions locally and nationally decided to close due to threats. We will do the same anytime law enforcement deems a threat to be credible.
We take these posts and all threats very seriously, as the safety and well-being of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. We encourage anyone who sees or hears anything that could represent a potential school safety issue to immediately notify a teacher, staff member, or administrator immediately. We thank our students who did report the social media posts this week. Thank you to our law enforcement agencies and staff for the critical role they played and continue to play in ensuring the safety and security of our school division.
Thank you,
Keith Perrigan, Ed.D.
