January 17, 2024 Isaiah 117 House Day in Washington County, VA
Washington County Public Schools serves many children in foster care and have an interest in supporting children as they enter the foster care system. When children are removed from their homes out of concern for their welfare, they are usually brought to the Department of Social Services offices to await placement with a foster family. This wait can be several hours to nearly a full day.
These children often have nothing with them and are scared, lonely, hungry, and in need of a change of clothes. Isaiah 117 House provides a comforting home where these children can be brought to wait- a place that is safe, with friendly and loving volunteers who provide clean clothes, smiles, toys, and snuggly blankets.
The Isaiah 117 House’s welcoming space allows children to receive the comfort and care they need, while the Department of Social Services staff perform the necessary paperwork and identify a good foster placement. Isaiah 117 House is changing the way foster care begins.
