Aaron Deel Memorial Scholarship
This one-time $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Holston High School Senior athlete with a minimum 3.0 GPA who plans to attend college after graduation. To be eligible for this scholarship a student must provide proof minimum GPA, have acceptance into a college or university, and write a brief essay describing their plans for the future and how the scholarship will benefit them. To complete an application please stop by the Counseling office. Deadline is April 15, 2023.
AER William and Dorothy Ferrell Scholarship
The AER William and Dorothy Ferrell Scholarship is available every two years to two students who are legally blind and are studying for a career in the field of services to persons who are blind or visually impaired. Disability Awards
American Genocide Scholarship

American Legion High School Oratorical Contest
Applicants must be enrolled in high school during the time of participation. This opportunity involves preparing and reciting a formal speech on some aspect of the Constitution, with emphasis on citizen’s duties and obligations to our government.

Blankenship/Justice Scholarship Fund

Captain Earle Worley Scholarship Fund

College Board Opportunity Scholarships
The College Board Opportunity Scholarships is a different kind of scholarship program. Students don't have to write an essay, fill out an application, or have a specific GPA or test score. The program rewards students for simply completing the actions they need to take in order to apply to college.

Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens Scholarship
Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships - Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study including history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, elementary and secondary education, chemistry, math, science and English. Delete Cyberbullying Scholarship
An essay contest cover the question, why is it important to work to delete cyberbullying, or, how has cyberbullying personally affected you? The recipient will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Dirk Derrick Car & Truck Accident Injury Scholarship
A one time $1,000 award essay contest for any current or soon to be undergraduate student who has had their life altered by an injury from an automobile accident. The deadline to apply is December 15th of each year.
East Tennessee Foundation Scholarships
This is a common application system used to determine eligibility for 61 different scholarship opportunities by filling out one application. Based on your answers to eligibility questions you will be provided with a list of East Tennessee Foundation scholarships you qualify for. Deadline to apply if February 15, 2023.
GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarships
Eligible students must be a high school senior, demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be a citizen of the U.S., plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college. This opportunity rewards qualifying applicants with a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years or $40,000 total. George E. Allen Academic Scholarship
The George E. Allen Academic Scholarship awards 15 scholarships each year to high school seniors throughout Virginia who have overcome adversity and have shown significant promise. Each scholarship is for $2000. Visit their website to apply.

Holston River Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship
The purpose of this program is to promote the education of Virginia citizens in technical fields with natural resource conservation, environmental protection, and agriculture. To give financial support to students majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to natural resource conservation, environmental studies, or agriculture.
Qualifications: Individual applicants must be Virginia residents and full-time students enrolled in or who have applied to a college freshman level curriculum. Applicants shall document a class ranking in the top 20% of his or her graduating class or a 3.0 or greater GPA or appropriate equivalent of individual scholastic achievement.
Amount Awarded: One $1,000.00 scholarship will be given to the local winner. A check will be issued directly to the selected institution of higher education on behalf of the student. The winner will also be submitted to the Virginia Association of Conservation District’s Education Foundation for their annual scholarship for a chance at an additional $1,000.00 scholarship.
Please contact the Holston River SWCD office for full application packet. Full applications (application, official school transcript, 3 letters of recommendation, and essay) are due to the Holston River SWCD office by close of business (4:30pm)on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarships
As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need. Johnston Memorial Hospital Health Career Scholarship
Johnston Memorial Hospital is currently accepting applications for the Health Career Scholarship. This award will be given to a graduating senior from each Washington County high school and the Career & Technical Education Center who plans to pursue a health care career after graduation. Recipients will receive a one-time grant of $1500 in college tuition assistance for the 2023 fall semester. Deadline to apply is April 14, 2023 and applications are available in the guidance office.
Johnston Memorial Ed Hill Scholar Athlete
In honor of Mr. Ed Hill, a long-time Johnston Memorial Hospital physical therapist and an active community advocate of high school athletics, the hospital will award a one-time $1000 grant to a college-bound senior from each of the Washington County high schools. To be a candidate for the award, you must have excelled in both academics and athletics during your high school career. Deadline to apply is April 14, 2023 and applications will be available in the guidance office.
Justin Foundation Scholarship
The Justin Foundation Scholarship is based on a combination of academic and financial need and community service. In order to be considered a student must be a graduate of a qualifying school, have a demonstrated financial need, have documentation of community service through the school, have a minimum 2.25 GPA, complete the FAFSA, and complete a Justin Scholarship application with the Counseling office. Deadline is April 21, 2023.
Kids Chance of Virginia
Kids Chance of Virginia was founded in 2011 with the goal of awarding academic scholarships to deserving children who have been adversely impacted by the work-related injury of a parent. If your parent has been impacted by a work-related injury, then visit their website to complete a scholarship application. Deadline is May 1, 2023.
Leo Ferrell Memorial Scholarship
The Leo Ferrell Memorial Rotary Scholarship was created by the Marion, Virginia Morning Rotary Club and the Ferrell family in memory of Leo Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell passed away in September of 2009 and was a member of the Marion community since 1962. Two of his primary passions were the game of golf and serving the Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2008. Mr. Ferrell was also General Manager/Head Golf Professional at Holston Hills Country Club in Marion from 1972 to 1977. This $2,500 scholarship seeks to identify and reward a member of a Southwest Virginia high school golf team who exemplifies leadership, academic excellence, sportsmanship, and community service. Deadline is April 1, 2023 and applications are available in the guidance office.
Moose "Heart of the Community" Scholarship Program
This application must be submitted in your Junior year of high school. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a parent, step-parent, grandparent, or legal guardian who is a current member of the Moose, and demonstrate volunteer activities on behalf of the Loyal Order of the Moose. NAFEPA Scholarship Program
The purpose of the scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for qualifying high school seniors attending their first year of college. There are four scholarships, each worth $2500, and they are non-renewable. Two scholarships are for students pursuing degrees in education and the other two may be awarded to those pursuing degrees in education or any other field. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline is February 1, 2023.
National Honor Society Scholarship
If you are a member of the National Honor Society you can log into your account and apply for the 2022-2023 NHS scholarship. Deadline is November 30, 2022.

National Merit Scholarship Program
High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT (PSAT/NMSQT) no later than their third year of high school. The student’s responses to items on the PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet instructions determine whether the individual meets requirements to participate. Score reports indicate whether the student has met program entry requirements.
PB&J Scholarship
Intended for seniors who may not have the best GPA and test scores but are motivated to succeed. Awards in the amount of $500-$1,000. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2023. Visit the following website for more information
Phyllis Hope Miller Scholarship
The Cancer Outreach Foundation offers the Phyllis Hope Miller Scholarship to any high school Senior with a parent/legal guardian, sibling, or the student themselves who has/had been diagnosed with cancer, and who will be attending college in the fall of 2023. There will be two $1,000 scholarships presented to the chosen winners of this scholarship. Applications are due no later that March 24th and must be mailed or faxed to the Cancer Outreach Foundation. Roan Scholars Leadership Program
Students planning to apply to ETSU who have leadership experience and have a desire to continue leading in college and upon graduation should see me about the Roan Scholars Program. Students selected as Roan Scholars will go through a nomination and interview process. Roan Scholars receive significant financial award for up to 8 semesters, workshops, seminars, internships, and global travel. HHS may only nominate one student, but any student may apply. Rotarian May Jo Craig “Service Above Self” Scholarships
The life of May Jo Craig, distinguished local Rotarian and beloved Clerk to the Washington County Public School System for decades, will be remembered through scholarships awarded by the Rotary Club of Abingdon, Virginia. May Jo Craig lived her life in accordance with the Rotary International motto “Service Above Self”, the philosophy that service to others is the highest calling one may aspire to in life. Graduating seniors from Abingdon, Holston, John Battle and Patrick Henry High Schools and the Washington County CTE Center who best exemplify this motto and Craig’s life of service will each be awarded a $750.00 educational scholarship. Each applicant must fully complete the Rotarian May Jo Craig “Service Above Self” Scholarship Application and meet all the qualifications and criteria listed below for a scholarship to be awarded. No applicant directly related to any Abingdon Rotary Club member will be eligible to receive this award. Awarded scholarships will be presented to selected recipients during annual school awards ceremonies and recipients also will be invited to attend an Abingdon Rotary Club luncheon in late April or early May, 2023 to be introduced and recognized by the Abingdon Rotary Club Membership. Sallie Mae Bringing the Dream Scholarship
This scholarship is for graduating Seniors from under-resourced, underrepresented, and underserved communities. It offers up to $10,000 for Seniors with a demonstrated financial need to attend a college or vocational or technical program. For more information and to apply go click here
Scholars Helping Collars Essay Scholarship
Open to any full-time high school senior. Awards include 1st place of $1,500, 2nd place of $300, and 3rd place of $200. Second and third place winners also get the opportunity choose animal shelters to receive donated items. The deadline to apply is February 27, 2023. Apply here by clicking here.
Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing Scholarship – The Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing is once again offering scholarship funding to students who wish to pursue a career in manufacturing. This scholarship can be used for post-secondary education in technical fields or for four-year degrees. Since manufacturing companies need individuals with a wide variety of education - from welding certificates to degrees such as marketing and chemistry - this scholarship can be used by students pursuing almost any degree. The Society of Cincinnati in the State of Virginia
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia announces an essay contest for any Virginia high school senior who will attend any four-year college in Virginia. The Society will award scholarships of $4000-$6000 to the authors of up to four essays. The application with the essay topic is available in the guidance office. Deadline to apply is March 10, 2023.
The Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting Firm Scholarship
A one time $1,000 award essay contest for any student who had his or her family's life altered because of tax controversies. The deadlines to apply are the last day in April and the last day in December of each year. for more information click here.
United Southwest Federal Credit Union
Open to all high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5, a member of USFCU, and who have been accepted to an accredited college, university, or seminary as a full-time student. United States Senate Youth Program Scholarship
Two students per state will be selected for an opportunity to attend a week-long trip in Washington, DC in which they experience their national government in action. Virginia Council on Women 9th Annual STEM Essay and Scholarship Contest
The Virginia Department of Education will be awarding five scholarships (one in each geographic region) to qualifying high school seniors who will be pursuing a STEM education at an institution, trade, or technical school. Eligible students must be female or identify as female, have a GPA of at least a 3.0 for the merit-based awards, and a GPA of at least a 2.5 for the need-based awards. Virginia Grain Producers Association
A $1,000.00 scholarship for a current or future full-time student (as of Fall 2022) at a Virginia institution of higher education. Preference will be given to agriculture students and applicants with a close relationship to the Virginia Grain Producers Association (VGPA), including: members (or dependents of a member) of the VGPA, or an active employee (or dependent of an active employee), of a member of the VGPA. Virginia Military Institute Scholarship Program
High school seniors with a strong academic and well-balanced high school record may be eligible to become Institute Scholars. Institute Scholars are awarded scholarship funds to supplement ROTC scholarships or other forms of financial aid to meet the full cost of VMI.
Virginia School Counselor Association Essay Contest
Open to any senior who plans to attend a two or four year college or university, trade or technical program, or enlist in any branch of the military. Applicant must write a one page essay of no more than 500 words about a school counselor, past or present, who has made a difference in your academic career, and/or social emotional development. Virginia Space Grant Consortium

Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program
Essay contest open to students in grades 9-12 and offered through the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This scholarship requires you to record a 3-5 minute essay on an audio CD or flash drive and submit the recorded version as well as a typed version. VSBA Student Essay Contest
This essay contest is designed to give Virginia high school students an opportunity to express creative ideas and concept, conduct research, think critically, practice public speaking skills, and subsequently receive recognition for doing so. To be entered into this contest students should complete an application, write a 600-750 work personal essay, create a short video presenting their essay, and complete a parental release form. VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation

Washington County 4-H Scholarship – This award is given to one student attending a 4-year school in the amount of $1,000 and a 2 year or trade school in the

Washington County Farm Bureau Scholarship
The Outstanding Young Agriculturalist Award recognizes a high school junior or senior for outstanding academic, community and agribusiness achievement. The award also encourages students to evaluate their progress and career goals and to strive for leadership opportunities and involvement in the agribusiness sector.
