Damascus Middle School was excited to welcome local physicians from Ballad Health
to our Career Café on Wednesday, February 5. Dr. Karen Elmore and residents Dr.
Passo and Dr. David joined us to talk about their exciting careers. They shared details
of the process for entering the field and answered students’ questions on the daily life of
a doctor and the details of their jobs. They also offered students the opportunity to test
out some of the tools of the trade to learn more about this exciting career path.

This week is National School Counselor Week! Thank you, Mrs. Moser, for encouraging DMS students to dream big!

DMS was pleased to welcome another fabulous presenter for our Career Cafe series on January 23. A best-selling author came to speak with students about writing as a career. He shared details about the creative and publishing process with students and really piqued their creative interests. He discussed the importance of good writing skills in a variety of career fields as well. Students also learned about career journeys as a whole and how to utilize skills learned in vocations along the way, even if career paths change during life.

If your student has any issues accessing virtual instruction during their scheduled time, please contact your child’s teacher or principal directly. We will work with them on instruction, assignments, and attendance.

Sixth-grade English teacher Mrs. Renee Foster is doing her part to ensure another successful blood drive is in the books for DMS!

We are closely monitoring the potential for winter weather to impact the area this afternoon, especially near our Russell County border. If you have concerns about your teen driver who would be driving home in these potential conditions, please contact your student's principal and they would be happy to work with you to coordinate an early dismissal. The same goes for bus riders in areas where roads are still snow covered or may become covered if the weather materializes.
We will closely monitor conditions for the remainder of the afternoon, but we do not currently anticipate a division wide schedule change.
