A competition had Washington County Virginia 4th graders racking their brains to remember the past.
The Washington County Agricultural Extension Office hosted the "4-h History Bowl" at the Higher Ed. Center in Abingdon in April, 2023. Teams from each elementary school in the county got together to see who knows their state history best. Organizers say it's a good way to get kids interested in their state history.
"It takes them from the settlers arriving at Jamestown, pretty much to current day, as far as our economies, and our crops and commodities. Those are all questions included in the History Bowl, and important to us as Virginia citizens," Added Washington County Extension Agent Crystal Peek.
This year the team from High Point Elementary School ultimately won the championship.
