Distance Learning

We currently offer dual-enrollment Calculus classes through our Cisco telecommunications system and Tandberg portable teleconferencing equipment that is placed in three of our four high schools. Multiple classrooms can be connected together so that one teacher can be teaching at several schools. The teacher can see and interact with each of the classrooms as if he or she were physically there including broadcasting computer screens, and handwritten text. In addition, the students can see and interact with the students at the other schools.

Washington County Schools also participate in the Linwood A. Holton Governor's School, Virtual Virginia, and SVETN's Elite Learning which are Internet-based classrooms. Classes are taught over our network with the blackboard becoming the computer. Instructors can teach advanced subjects to many schools at one time. Classes can also be archived for later viewing.
