  <title>Washington County's 2012 ASVAB Test Was Largest Ever</title>

  <description>Washington County Schools offered the Armed Services Vocational
Aptitude Battery examination on February 10, 2012.  Thirty-eight
students took the test.  The number represented the largest group ever
to be tested since the Neff Center began offering the test eleven
years ago.

The test has two values for the examinee.  First, a pre-determined
overall score must be attained before an individual can enlist in the
armed forces.  Secondly,  Once a score is attained, students can be
advised about their suitability for various jobs within the militar. . .</description>

Their most recent trip was to Food City where Mr. Taylor showed the class where the milk and dairy, meat and protein, breads and grains, fruits and vegetables,and of course, cookies and milk groups, are at the grocery store. The children walked into the giant refrigerator and freezer. They walked into a big truck trailer that brings the food to Food City. By going on these types of fields trips, the children experience so much more about the subjects they are learning at school by seein. . .</description>

  <title>Abingdon Elementary School Pre-Kindergarten Students Practice Healthy Habits</title>

  <description>The months of January and February are important months for Abingdon Elementary Preschool students. The children learn about healthy habits to keep them from getting sick during the winter months. They learn that eating healthy foods is a good way to stay healthy! The preschool decided to visit their school cafeteria to see all the healthy foods being prepared for their lunches.   <title>Holston's 4-H Participates in “Backpack Unite” Program</title>

  <description>Twelve members of the Holston High School 4-H club recently participated in a community service project. Club members packed 1800 food bags for elementary students in Russell and Washington counties. This project was a part of the United Way’s “Backpack Unite” program designed to assist elementary school students. Backpacks Unite delivers nutritious prepackaged food in order to supplement the student's needs over a weekend. Each student in the program receives a bag once per month.   <title>The Patrick Henry High School Forensics Team Competes in District Tournament</title>

  <description>The Patrick Henry Forensics team competed in the district tournament at Chilhowie High School on February 8, 2012.  Fifteen students competed in 12 categories, making this the largest team Patrick Henry High School has ever had.  The team finished fourth overall, which is the highest finish in Patrick Henry High School history.  Even more remarkable, none of these students have ever competed in forensics before!   <title>Greendale Elementary Students Share Their Talents!</title>

  <description>Patrick Henry High School would like to congratulate Mrs. Tammy Snapp for being chosen as the Patrick Henry High School teacher of the year.  Mrs. Snapp has taught Spanish for 15 years at Patrick Henry High School.  She strives to meet the needs of every student and foster a love of learning.  In addition to teaching, Mrs. Snapp served a senior class sponsor and as gifted coordinator during the first several years.   <title>Aw, Shucks! Making Your Own Toys Can Be Fun</title>

  <description>Rhea Valley 4th graders brought colonial history studies into the Mrs. Compton’s art room. Students made dolls which were modeled after cornhusk dolls from the 1600's. The children had been studying about Colonial life in Mrs. Sanders' 4th grade History class, and this project gave them hands-on experience with that part of colonial life. They enjoyed decorating the dolls after the initial base was created out of paper bags. Students also shared many experiences in their lives in which they had had the opportunity to make toys of their own. T. . .</description>
