America the Beautiful with colors presented by the Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard.
A celebration of music, "Made in the USA", was performed by the E. B. Stanley Middle School seventh grade chorus under the direction of Kerisha Kegley and Marva Wheeler. The program included songs from way down yonder in New Orleans, rock and roll, country and broadway. The performance ended with God Bless the USA and America the Beautiful as the colors were presented by the Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard. Students gave an outstanding performance to a standing room only crowd as part of the May PTA meeting.

The 2004 Holston High School Winter Guard finished up a successful season March 27th at the Smoky Mountain Winter Guard Competition in North Buncombe, NC. The guard placed third out of eight units with a score of 74.9, just .2 away from second place. They competed in the Novice A class at both competitions. Earlier in the season, the Winter Guard also performed at Morristown East High School, placing third out of six units. The Winter Guard has eleven members who attend Damascus Middle School and Holston High School. They performed a show to the Josh Groban hit, "You Raise Me Up." The season culminated in an encore performance for parents, teachers, and community members at Holston.
Ms. Paula Hammond presents Mr. Dell Jones of High Point Elelentary with his award.
On May 4, National Teacher Appreciation Day, Ms. Paula Hammond of WalMart Supercenter in Bristol, Va presented Dell Jones, Third Grade Teacher at High Point Elementary School, with the WalMart Teacher of the Year Award. Mr. Jones received a check of $1000 for the school and the right to compete for the state Walmart Teacher of the Year award.
In making the presentation, representatives of WalMart said, "We're delighted to honor one of the best of the best. We are proud to help raise awareness for excellence in education and to salute teachers, who play such an important role in growing and shaping young people".
Mr. Jones was nominated for the award by the students in his class and their parents. As part of the presentation, the students sang an orginal song composed in their teacher's honor.
DMS students perform at Victim's Rights Ceremony
The Damascus Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus performed in concert at the County Courthouse for the National Crime Victims' Rights Week program on Friday, April 23. This ceremony honors a hero of our local community and is sponsored by the Washington County Victim/Witness Assistance Program and the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney. Students sang "American Tears", "You Are Our Heroes" and "You Raise Me Up". The chorus is under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Walton.
