Chase D. from High Point Elementary greatly delights in
handling the sheep brain.
GATE students from elementary and middle schools participated in a "Mini-Mini-Medical School" on Oct. 8. Doctors and students from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg presented the program. Among the topics the students studied were nutrition, the cardio-vascular system, germs and the brain. The GATE students worked with the Culinary Arts students of the Neff Center to prepare a nutritious vegetable pizza and fruit pizza lunch. In addition, the parents of some of the students participated in parenting sessions during the day-long program. Making pizzas and handling brains were certainly some of the highlights of this Science Saturday.

Students of Character (responsibility) at Wallace Middle School.
Wallace Middle School is proud to recognize the Students of Character for the first six weeks of the 2005-2006 school year. These students were chosen by first core teachers for the character trait of responsibility. Being nominated for the trait of responsibility indicates that the students are accountable for their choices, always do their best, are self-disciplined, and do what should be done.
Each Core 1 teacher will select one student during each six weeks period. There will be a focus on one of six character traits from the six pillars of character from the Character Counts! youth-ethics initiative. The six pillars of character include responsibility, trustworthiness, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Congratulations to these outstanding students. Steven C., Cassandra H., Zac V., Landi L., Timmy S., Karleigh R., MacKenzie C., Rebecca W., Kenny R., Catlin H., Katie C., Shanna P., Caroline S. Mashanda L., Ashley B., Chez C., Zach M., Seth P., Kyle H., Taylor G., and Patti O.
