Culinary II Student Earns Scholarship to Johnson & Wales University 02-02-2017

A girl holding up a letter and smiling.Karisma M. was selected as the recipient of a scholarship to attend Johnson & Wales University in Florida.  Karisma's academic record and personal accomplishments earned her this distinguished award.  She will be living on campus and officially becomes a JWU Wildcat in May!

The Washington County Special Education Advisory Committee Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. If school is not in session on that day, the meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.The meeting will be held in the top floor conference room of the Annex Building.  The meeting is open to the public. Questions regarding the meeting may be directed to Connie Phillips, Supervisor of Special Education at 739-3041.

Holston High School Band Attends Canadian Brass Concert 01-31-2017

A group of musicians performing on stage.On Thursday, January 19, 2017 the Holston High School Band traveled to the McGlothlin Center for the Arts and listened to a concert by the Canadian Brass. The ensemble is considered by many to be to be the world’s foremost brass ensemble.

E. B. Stanley Middle School Student Wins “If I were Mayor” Essay 01-25-2017

A boy smiling.Dillon M., a seventh grader at E.B. Stanley Middle School, was selected as the Region 1 winner of the Virginia Municipal League’s “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. He will travel to Richmond to receive his award at Virginia Municipal League Day, on January 25, 2017, at the Library of Virginia; at 3:00 p.m. Dillon will be presented a certificate from Governor McAuliffe and a $150 cash prize.

ASVAB Test to Be Offered at Career and Technical Center 01-24-2017
For the 15th consecutive year, the Washington County Career and Technical Center will sponsor a test session for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB).  The test will be given on Friday, February 3rd from 12:30 to 3:15 PM.  The ASVAB is offered to all county sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have a potential interest in serving in the United States military.  All branches of the military and their reserve components mandate that individuals take the ASVAB before they enlist.
Holston Agriculture Teacher Receives Top National Recognition 01-24-2017

A teacher is receiving a plaque.How do you follow being recognized as the best in your profession at the state level?  You do it by being selected as the best in the nation.  Holston High School Agriculture teacher Sarah Scyphers was named the 2017 winner of the Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award by the American Farm Bureau Federation.  This follows her selection as the Virginia winner in 2016.
