On June 8, 2012, Christine Hannen did a special program with students participating in the summer school program at Rhea Valley Elementary School. The program highlighted Mrs. Hannen's adventures as she hiked the Appalachian Trail. Following a video documentary about the Appalachian Trail, Mrs. Hannen took the students outside to visit a campsite she had set up. Students learned about the proper way to prepare for hiking and camping. They discussed what clothing and equipment were need for various types of hiking and camping adventures and the importance of "Leave No Trace" camping and hiking. One part of the program that brought lots of laughs was when students tried to hang the camping food in the tree. Thank you Christine Hannen for another great program for our students.
