On May 3, 2012, members of the United Way of Russell and Washington Counties held a Tornado Volunteer Appreciation Dinner for individuals and groups who assisted with the Tornado Recovery efforts over the past year. The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Grand Ballroom was full of volunteers who gave of themselves, with time, effort, and money, in order to help our community rebuild after last spring’s devastation. Students and staff from Meadowview Elementary School were in attendance with many others from our area. Many thousands of volunteer hours were given by hundreds of individuals from around the world in order help rebuild the affected areas of Washington County. We would like to say thank you to everyone who had a part in this tremendous effort and ask that you keep the United Way organization in mind as you find ways to “give back” to your community.
