Gifted Handbook

The Gifted Handbook is now available:

  • Gifted Handbook (PDF 145.79 KB) - Gifted and Talented Education, What Parents Want to Know

Our school division has a newly revised plan for the education of the gifted. The plan is in response to changes that the General Assembly has made in the code that governs Virginia's schools. Under the new regulations school divisions are directed to focus their efforts on manageable goals in five areas: Identification, Curriculum Development, Delivery of Services, Staff Development, and Parent and Community Involvement, all must be accomplished by 2005.

In addition to the changes that have been noted to the plan for serving gifted children, the General Assembly has required that the school division provide training for all professional staff members in characteristics of gifted learners. Plans are underway to provide the training that is needed for teachers and administrators.
